SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is a cryptographic protocol wich is used to keep the communication safe on the internet. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the https protocol and allows secure connections from a web server to a browser. SSL certificate is digitally signed file issued for a particular domain name. The certificate contains the issuer signature, serial number, expiration date. The certificate has to be first installed on the server, and once the installation is complete, you can access services via HTTPS or any other SSL protocols like FTPs, etc. Today, there is a growing complexity of security threats, including: viruses, spam, and other malwares, that are becoming more alarming. These threats are getting more intelligent and have even managed to adapt well into today's network conditions undetected.
